Chen Xizhong
Executive Chairman
Chen Xizhong is our Executive Chairman. He was appointed to our Board on 26 December 2007. He is the founder of our Group and is responsible for the strategic development of our Group. Chen Xizhong has over 20 years of experience in the backpack industry. He joined the Huian Leather Company, a state owned enterprise enaged in the manufacturing of backpacks in 1982 as an apprentice and was eventually promoted to the head of the sales department of Huian Leather Company. He left Huian Leather Company in December 1994 and went on to work in Dabao in 1995 and was subsequently made the executive director. After gaining much expertise, Chen Xizhong incorporated Dapai in April 2003. He was in charge and responsible for Dapai’s daily operations and was eventually made the executive director of Dapai, a position which he still holds today. Chen Xizhong graduated from Fujian Huian Province Number One Secondary School in 1980 with a certificate in Business. Throughout his years in the backpack industry, he has won many awards such as "Entrepreneur Figure for Year 2000 in China" . He has also assumed leadership positions in a number of various organisations in China such as the Vice-Chairman of Quanzhou Fengze North Street Federation of Overseas Chinese Citizens since 2004, and Vice-Chairman of Quanzhou Sino-Foreign Enterprise Society since 2007. Chen Xizhong is also a member of various other associations in China such as being a committee member of the 12th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of Huian County in 2006.
Chen Xizhong is the father of our CEO, Chen Yong and our Sales and Marketing Manager, Chen Yi.
Chen Yong
Chief Executive Officer
Chen Yong is our Chief Executive Officer. He was appointed to our Board on 26 December 2007. He is responsible for the strategic development, the overall management and the sales and marketing of our Group. Chen Yong joined our Group’s sales and marketing department in August 2003. Although he only officially joined our Group in 2003, he had often assisted his father, Chen Xizhong, in the daily operations of our Group since young. Through his frequent involvement in our Group’s daily operatons since young, coupled with the experience he gained when he officially joined our Group, he was made the assistant to the general manager of Dapai in 2004, the deputy general manager of Dapai in 2005, and eventually, the general manager of Dapai in 2006. Pursuant to the Resturcturing Exercise, he was appointed the executive director of Dapai (HK) and Dapai. He was awarded "Entrepreneur of the Year 2006" by the Luocheng Town Committee . Chen Yong graduated from King George International College with a specialised diploma in Business in July 2003.
Chen Yong is the son of our Executive Chairman, Chen Xizhong and is also the brother of our Sales and Marketing Manager, Chen Yi.
Wong Hung Khim
Lead Independent Director
Wong Hung Khim is our Lead Independent Director. He was appointed to our Board on 10 March 2008. Wong Hung Khim graduated from the University of Singapore with an Honours Degree in Physics in 1964. He first joined teaching service in 1964 and then the Singapore Administrative Service in 1966 where he served with the then Ministry of Social Affairs and later, the Ministry of Labour.
Wong Hung Khim was the executive director of the Port of Singapore Authority ("PSA") from 1979 to 1987. With him at the helm of PSA, Singapore grew to become the world's busiest port in terms of shipping tonnage. In July 1984, he concurrently took on the additional portfolio of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs which was re-structured, enlarged and re-named the Ministry of Community Development in 1985.
In July 1987, Wong Hung Khim was seconded to the Telecommunication Authority of Singapore. His main task was to re-structure and corporatize the statutory board. Under his able leadership, Singapore Telecommunications Limited was incorporated on 28 March 1992 and subsequently listed on the SGXST on 1 October 1993. He became the first President and Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Telecommunications Limited until May 1995. Wong Hung Khim was then seconded to be the Chairman of Jurong Town Corporation ("JTC") from November 1993 to December 1997. JTC is a statutory board responsible for the industrial development of Singapore. In January 1996, after 31 years of distinguished service, Wong Hung Khim retired and joined the private sector. He became the Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Delgro Corporation (now known as ComfortDelgro), a public listed company which operates public transport in Singapore, the United Kingdom and China. He retired from Delgro Corporation on 31 December 2002.
In recognition of his outstanding achievements in public service, Wong Hung Khim was awarded by the President of Singapore, the Meritorious Service Medal in 1992, the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 1977 and the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 1974.
Lim Kern
Independent Director
Lim Kern is our Independent Director. He was appointed to our Board on 27 February 2008. Lim Kern has over 13 years of experience in the finance sector, particularly in the field of mergers and acquisitions. He begun his career with Hewlett-Packard Singapore in June 1994 as their e-business process lead, and was made their financial planning and analysis leader in June 1995, responsible for the financial planning and analysis of the company’s South East Asia’s operations. Thereafter, he left the employment of Hewlett-Packard and joined General Electric Company in July 1996, where he was made the finance leader/manager of various operations within the company, such as the finance leader Asia Pacific Region from July 1996 to November 1998 (based in Singapore), the finance manager of Global Supply Chain Management from November 1998 to February 2000 (Based in Upstate New York), the finance manager of Steam Turbine Operations from February 2000 to May 2001 (also based in Upstate New York), and eventually the finance manager of Global Mergers and Acquisitions Closing from May 2001 to March 2003 (based out of Atlanta, GA), where he was responsible for the driving substantial revenue growth through global acquisitions such as the global integration of GE Wind Energy which had a US$1 billion revenue business in Europe. For his efforts, General Electric awarded several management awards for his excellence performance. His experience in the field of global mergers and acquisitions grew further as he joined the Eastman Kodak Company, based in New York, USA, in March 2003 as their global acquisition leader, where he rendered advices to the company’s top management on potential mergers and acquisitions deals. His expertise in the Asia, China and consumer products industries grew when he was made the Chief Financial Officer of Eastman Kodak for Asia Pacific Region in January 2005, where he was in charge of the overall financial aspects of the company’s operations in the Greater Asia Pacific Region. Lim Kern joined a private equity owned company in auto components manufacturing; ASIMCO Technologies Limited as their Global Chief Financial Officer (in March 2006, based out of Beijing, China), responsible for the strategic planning, Financing and IPO activities of the group. He left the employment of ASIMCO Technologies Limited in November 2007 and joined The Venetian Macao - Resort - Hotel as their vice president of finance. Lim Kern graduated from Nanyang Technological University of Singapore with a Bachelors of Accountancy in 1994.
Lam Peck Heng
Independent Director
Lam Peck Heng is our Independent Director. He was appointed to our Board on 27 February 2008. He started his career as a teacher at St Joseph’s Institution from January to August 1961. He then left for overseas studies and on his return, he taught at Raffles Institution from September 1963. He left Raffles Institution in September 1968 and joined the Economic Development Board in October 1968 as their senior officer. In September 1969 he was seconded to the Ministry of Finance in Singapore and was later absorbed into the Administrative Service. In February 1975, he left the employment of the Ministry of Finance and joined Intraco Ltd. as their manager for planning and development and rose to the position of assistant general manager. In January 1986, he joined the Singapore Society of Accountants as their registrar and executive director until May 1988. From June 1988 to November 1992, he was Singapore’s Head of Mission in Myanmar. He was Singapore’s High Commissioner to India from January 1993 up to June 1996 and High Commissioner to New Zealand from July 1996 to June 2000. Lam Peck Heng was educated at Raffles Institution and obtained his B.Sc.(Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Singapore and an M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Kansas. He was awarded the Public Service Medal in 1982 and the Friend of Labour medal from NTUC in 1983.
Sam Kok Yin
Independent Director
Sam Kok Yin is our Independent Director. He was appointed to our Board on 27 February 2008. Sam Kok Yin started his career as a practicing Advocate and Solicitor with Rajah & Tann in 2000. In 2003, he left to join Yeo Wee Kiong Law Corporation where he was made a Director in 2004. He also headed the China Practice at Yeo Wee Kiong Law Corporation until he left practice on 31 March 2007. His main areas of practice included corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate work and he had been involved in several initial public offerings, reverse takeovers, investment deals and other capital markets related transactions. Sam Kok Yin obtained his honours degree in law from the National University of Singapore in 2000 under an Overseas Union Bank scholarship. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 2001. He was ranked in first position in the postgraduate Practical Law Course organised by the Board of Legal Education and awarded the Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par Memorial Prize. In 2004, Sam Kok Yin was appointed as a Singapore-China Young Business Ambassador as part of a program organised by the Singapore International Foundation and spent 10 weeks in Shanghai as part of the exchange program. Sam Kok Yin is currently a director of Perennial Advisory Pte. Ltd., a company involved in investments and financial consultancy. He is also an independent director of China Sports International Limited, a China-based company listed on the Exchange which is engaged in the manufacture and sale of sports shoes and sports apparels.
